FOSTER

We are always looking for qualified foster parents for cats and kittens of all ages. The following is the basic requirements and agreements to fostering with us!

  • Fosters must be willing to let Campus Cats do housing check(s) to see where the cats or kittens will be kept.

  • Fosters must live within an approximate 30 minute radius from YSU, unless discussed otherwise with Campus Cat officials.

  • All foster cats will be kept indoors only.

  • Any other cats or dogs in the home of the foster must be vaccinated and have a local veterinarian before the foster cats are permitted into the home.

  • Campus Cats cannot guarantee that the foster animal has no contagious illnesses before being let into the home. It is up to the foster to keep the cat separated from their animals until that can be determined. Any known pre-existing problems (ex: fleas) will be disclosed with the foster before they accept to foster a specific animal or animals.

  • If a cat is showing signs of illness or lethargic behavior, the foster is to notify Campus Cats immediately. (Note: kittens decline very quickly, so it is important to watch their behavior closely)

  • If a cat has a vet appointment (ex: for spay/neuter), we will work with their schedule to make the appointment, but the foster is responsible for transporting the cat to and from the veterinary office.

  • If a cat undergoes an emergency or illness, it could be subjected to euthanization at Campus Cats’ discretion. All necessary procedures and medical costs will be covered by Campus Cats while the cat is being fostered, but any vet visit, medications, or procedures must be approved by Campus Cats before taking place.

  • Campus Cats cannot guarantee that we can provide food or litter for the foster cat(s) or kitten(s), but we will do our best with the resources we have. However, if a cat is required to eat a specific brand of food, we will provide the that for the foster.

  • The foster must be willing to work with and meet with potential adopters.

  • A foster must keep adult cats or weaned kittens for Campus Cats before they will be permitted to foster kittens on bottle feeds. Even so, we are very peculiar about who can foster neonates, so we cannot guarantee you will be approved to foster neonates, even after you have already fostered other cats through us. The decision is up to Campus Cat officials. (Note: there is a separate application to fill out for fostering neonates)

  • If the foster is considering adopting a cat or kitten, they must inform us ASAP. We cannot deny other adopters if the foster is unsure if they want to adopt the animal they are fostering.

  • All cats or kittens will have a health screening before going to a foster home as a precaution against contagious diseases.

  • All other pets and children in the home must be disclosed to us so we can place our foster kitties in homes best suited for them.
